Civic Initiatives base their approach in the field of formal education on the concept Rights in practice , as a result of many years of experience in non-formal education with different target groups. Our goal is that participants acquire knowledge, develop skills and adopt values which make an assumption for overall personality development and for a complete, responsible and engaged life in a modern civic society in the spirit of observing human rights and basic liberties, peace, tolerance, gender equality and understanding between nations, ethnic, national and religious groups.
Civic education concepts, which we developed, are designed in way that enables students: freedom in expression of opinions and attitudes, improvement of communication skills, development of critical thinking, arguing and advocating personal attitudes, responsible decision making and acting. Realization of the program contents is based on application of interactive and research work methods.
Implementation of the program in school practice is continually monitored and adapted according to the experiences of teachers and needs of students. Constant contact with teachers is evaluated as one of the special values of our approach assuring quality in the transfer of knowledge. The crucial challenge in relation to civic education is in the selection of the teachers who still observe civic education as an opportunity to extend their total scope of lessons, and not as a chance for professional development of the interested teachers.
Up to today, we have developed civic education content for:
V grade of primary school
III grade of high school
IV grade of high school
We have also performed adaptation and adjustment of the program
Project Citizen for the 7 th grade of primary schools.
