Municipality of Palilula

The Palilula municipality Youth Office was established in 2006 as the first Youth Office in Serbia, while in 2007 it was allocated premises for the Youth Club located in 112, Cvijićeva St.
The Office is engaged in:

  • Promotion of youth activism
  • Organisation of different activities (foreign languages, school of cartoons, guitar, CV writing and techniques for an interview with employer, let's debate together)
  • Providing premises for needs of the young (the young who visited the US gather in the premises, whereas the group of young breakdancers meets at the local community premises at Borča Centar 3 at times agreed)
  • Providing support to the young in design and realisation of various programmes.

In scope of the work performed in so far, numerous educational programmes have been organised- salsa lessons,  conversation in English on Thursdays, foreign language courses (Greek, Spanish, Italian, English), whereas in cooperation with Civic Initiatives, twelve young people from the left bank of the river Danube (Borča, Ovča, Krnjača, Kotež) spent a month in Amrica within the Serbia Youth Leadership Programme..

The Youth Office is an organiser of an already traditional event named "Culture Olympics of Palilula" aimed at promotion of cultural work of the young belonging to different sub-cultural groups. It includes competitions amoung young people, mainly secondary school students, in different categories such as literary writing, bands, painting, urban art (graffiti and break dance), graphical design, short film, etc.

Additionally, supported by the Youth Office and Club, the young of Palilula have organised numerous events, such as break dance competitions, hip hop competitions (MCs battle), sport tournaments, etc.
The Club premises are open at all times for young people get together there and use computers, while with the assistance of the Office/ Club staff, non-formal groups from Borča were allowed to use the premises of their local communities during the agreed time periods.

Opening of Youth Clubs in the settlements of Kotež, Karaburma and Borča was planned for the coming period, thus making Palilula the first municipality in Serbia in whose territory more than one Youth Clubs are in operation.
What remains to be done is to formalise the decision on establishment of the Youth Policy Council in scope of the municipal council of the Palilula city board, which would be responsible for the Youth Clubs programme policy. In this way, young people will get the opportunity to take part in decision- making processes at the local level.

The Youth Office is in constant communication with all institutions and organisations relevant for the youth issues, like the national Employment Service, Palilula Center for Social Work, Club of the Palilula Entrepreneurs, primary and secondary schools, nongovernmental organisations, students' parliaments and informal youth groups.
