The Kuršumlija Municipality Youth Office
Youth Office of the Municipality of Kuršumlija was established in April 2008. Immediately following the decision on its establishment, the Office was included into the framework of the Civic Initiatives' "Youth Groups and Youth Offices Capacity Building" programme. After appointment of the Coordinator and formation of an initial youth group related to operation of the Office, efforts were undertaken for provision of premises, but also for inclusion of the young who recognise the importance of active relation towards their city, i.e. their position. As its first activity, the Office conducted a survey on position and needs of youth in territory of this municipality in cooperation with Civic Initiatives. According to the survey, the greatest problems youth in Kuršumlija is facing are the following:
What followed were the activities aimed at strengthening of capacities and institutional framework for operation of the Office. In that sense, seminars and consultative meetings were held, which were, besides the Office Coordinator, usually attended by several representatives of the initial youth group, interested in the Office work.
Moreover, in cooperation with Civic Initiatives, "Public Debate on Mobility of the Youth" was organised in the hall of the Municipal Assembly of Kuršumlija, where advice and ideas for "unusual and inexpensive" travels to the neighbouring and the EU countries were presented.
It is expected that the decision on allocation of premises will be passed, which would resolve an important problem related to operation of the Office itself, that is, its visibility and availability to the youth.
The activities the Office is planning to undertake in the coming period are the following:
When the youth is concerned, according to the 2002 Census, there are in total 3.627 young people, aged 15-27 living in the territory of the municipality of Kuršumlija.
