The United States of America

Within the project "YOUTH STRENGHTENING FOR PARTICIPATING IN DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL COMMUNITY AND CIVIL SOCIETY IN SERBIA" and with the partnership of organization World Learning and State Department, one month visit to the United States for 27 students and 6 proffesors/activists from seven towns from Serbia, was organized. Programme lasted from April 3rd till May 3rd. During this period students spent first seven days in the camp on leadership in the town Brattellboro, Vermont. After that, the group was divided into three smaller groups, and each of the groups went to different citiy: Seattle, Clevelend and Atlanta. Being stagered in the families, the participants had an opportunity to get acquinted with usual life style of Americans, their school system, and activism of youmg people in their local communities. After eighteen days, all the participants were gathered in Washington DC, where they had opportunity to exchange their notions and experiences on what they had skilled. After that, they created action plans on how they could apply acquired knowledge and experience in their hometowns. Upon their return from the Unated states, a camp «Becoming a Citizen», which gave them extra support for their engagement in the local community, was organized for them. After the camp, the participanats started different types of activities in their towns and initiated the work of school parliaments. Nowdays, when this program has been finishing, these young people organized a training on their networking in order to secure their preservance in future and, in that way, become a network of young people acting in towns in Serbia.
