Becoming a Citizen is a programme of civil education designated for young people from17 to 28 years of age. With this programme we are educating young people about the ways they can become active in their hometowns.
Goals of this programme are:
Programme is consisted of 7 workshops which are treating following topics: democracy, democratic institutions, civil society, human rights, the right to civic initiative, characteristics of authoritative and democratic societies, non-violent conflict resolutions, team work, stereotypes and prejudice, media, manipulation and protection from manipulation in media, social marketing, public relations, NGOs, activity planning.
Workshops are realized by team of trainers "Becoming a Citizen", who passed education and the exam in the year of 2000.

After the realization of the programme, young people organized over 30 local activities, which had the purpose of improving conditions for young people and improving local communities in which the programme was realized.
One of the outcomes of this programme is continuation of youth initiatives on the local level. Many of participants continued to be active in local NGOs, and some of them are included in volunteer group of Civic Initiatives.
BECOMING A CITIZEN - CIVIC EDUCATION IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Ministry of Education and Sports of Republic of Serbia in cooperation with Civic Initiatives decided to introduce programme Becoming a Citizen as a subject of Civic Education for students of third grade of secondary schools. For that purpose Ministry formed a commission which included three representatives of Civic Initiatives. In period from August 2003 till June 2004, commission had more than 50 meetings, on which manual for teachers who will teach Civic Education in schools was created. Along with that , training of trainers, who will educate teachers for realization of this subject, was organized.
