Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia during the state of emergency<\/h3>\n

7-9 April, 2020<\/h3>\n

Due to the new situation in the world caused by\u00a0the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus and the declaration of a state of emergency on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, in addition to violations of the rights to freedom of association, assembly and expression, given the circumstances, Civic Initiatives will monitor other human rights in the coming period.<\/p>\n

The past period has been marked by examples of misuse of personal data and violations of the privacy rights of citizens infected with the corona virus. Not only the media, especially those in favor of the ruling party, contribute to this, but also the statement by the President, who claims that he calls patients with the virus by telephone every day. On the other hand, a strong negative campaign against the independent media continued, in which apart from the tabloids, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic also contributed, which is why the Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia reacted. The practice of ignoring the needs of the most vulnerable categories of citizens, as well as the real needs of civil society organizations dealing with their protection, has continued, and the issue of movement permits during curfew has not been systematically solved, but such a procedure is foreseen in the field of providing home help services, which is a significant relief for those organizations that perform these activities.<\/p>\n
