Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia<\/h3>\n

Due to the new situation in the world caused by the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus and the declaration of a state of emergency on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, in addition to violations of the rights to freedom of association, assembly and expression, given the circumstances, Civic Initiatives will monitor other human rights, Civic Initiatives have monitored all other human rights. Although the state of emergency in Serbia was lifted on May 6, given the large number of violations, the Civic Initiatives will continue to monitor the situation in the field of all human rights in the coming period.<\/p>\n

The past period was marked by an organized campaign against the Belgrade Center for Security Policy with a series of announcements by the National Avant-Garde and the portal Prismotra in which researchers of this organization were targeted and the BCSP was accused of “endangering Serbia’s security and calling for riots.” These contents were shared synchronously on some portals and local TV stations owned by individuals close to the ruling party, indicating that such an approach was organized and planned, which is of particular concern. The Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia also issued a statement on frequent attacks on the local media. They stated that they condemn the attacks on local media journalists that took place in the days before the elections and on the Election day itself, and that they were the culmination of months of intimidation, threats and pressure faced by Serbian journalists during the corona virus pandemic and election campaign.<\/p>\n
