Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia<\/h3>\n

April 9 – April 22 2021.<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the past period, media associations, civil society organizations and journalists have again been the target of numerous attacks – both verbal, institutional and physical. Numerous insults and the created atmosphere of permissibility and impunity for violence against journalists culminated in the assault on radio host Da\u0161ko Milinovi\u0107, who was attacked with tear gas and beaten with a metal bar. On the other hand, there have been repeated cases of so-called SLAPP lawsuits against media, which feature demands for extremely high compensation in order to intimidate outlets into self-censorship, but also exhaust them financially. Finally, there is also continuing pressure on the non-governmental sector from the state, through unjustified financial controls which, due to their frequency or duration, seriously hinder the normal functioning of organizations, which is what the Center for Judicial Research (CEPRIS) has been faced with in the last month.<\/p>\n
