{"id":12737,"date":"2021-07-07T13:00:51","date_gmt":"2021-07-07T11:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gradjanske.org\/?p=12737"},"modified":"2021-07-07T12:34:39","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T10:34:39","slug":"bcsdn-monitoring-matrix-regional-report-2020-narrowing-the-civic-space-in-the-western-balkans-in-times-of-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gradjanske.org\/en\/bcsdn-monitoring-matrix-regional-report-2020-narrowing-the-civic-space-in-the-western-balkans-in-times-of-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"BCSDN Monitoring Matrix Regional Report 2020: Narrowing the Civic Space in the Western Balkans in Times of Pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Belgrade, 7 July 2021-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.balkancsd.net\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Balkan Civil Society Development Network (BCSDN)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is pleased to announce the launch of the <\/span><b>2020 edition of the Monitoring Matrix Regional Report on Enabling Environment for Civil Society Development<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, examining the civil society developments in the Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 has been a profoundly challenging year for Western Balkan countries. Some of the common countries&#8217; trends covered in the MM Regional report are the attacks against basic human freedoms, access to funding, and lack of financial support, limited dialogue with public authorities, and lack of transparency in CSO representation in cross-sector bodies. The report also addresses the problematic anti-money laundering legislation in some countries, fiscal and tax treatment of CSOs, unstimulating employment and volunteering policies, etc. Despite the challenges, the report emphasizes that CSOs had a vital role in providing social services for various beneficiaries and protecting vulnerable groups throughout the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report\u2019s key findings and recommendations will also be presented at an online public event on <\/span><b>12 July 2021 (Monday) at 11 am CET. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be a part of this event, please pre-register <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/MT4B7VPZLcYDSKcv6\"><b>here<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.monitoringmatrix.net\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monitoring Matrix<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> deals with <\/span><b>3 key areas: Fundamental freedoms, CSO financial viability and sustainability, and CSO-Government Relations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
