The past two weeks have been extremely difficult in terms of the freedom of expression, assembly and association in Serbia. Two activists, who were throwing eggs at a mural dedicated to war criminal Ratko Mladic in Njegoseva Street in Belgrade, were detained by the police. During a protest in support of the removal of the mural, Women in Black activists had their banner stolen and publicly burned. Activists and civil society organizations were threatened because of expressing public support for the removal of the mural, while journalists from N1 were repeatedly hindered from reporting on the scene near the mural and reporting on the working conditions of Vietnamese workers on the construction site of a Chinese factory “Linglong” in Zrenjanin.<\/p>\n
