Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia<\/h3>\n

19 – 29 September, 2022<\/h3>\n

The observed period from September 19 to 29, 2022 was marked by numerous violations of basic and human rights and freedoms.<\/p>\n

A journalist from the portal “Pan\u010devo.Si.Ti” experienced death threats after unknown persons left funeral wreaths at the entrance to his property, while a journalist from the portal Danas, Marjana Stevanovi\u0107, was insulted at the “Vukov sabor” event in Loznica, due to her views on gender sensitive language.<\/p>\n

The police continue to persecute the participants of EuroPride, by banning the entry into Serbia of 8 persons who “insulted public morals”, and filed two criminal charges against the citizens of Turkey and Italy, for “causing national, racial and religious hatred and intolerance”. The “Da se zna” association announced that it recorded a total of 14 attacks on EuroPride participants in its records.<\/p>\n

Environmental activist Miroslav Perovi\u0107 from Kosjeri\u0107 was beaten at the entrance to the building where he lives, and environmental activists from Majdanpek were subjected to police torture that included beatings, confession coercion and preventing contact with lawyers and family members.<\/p>\n
