On November 5th, two “Serbias” met in the center of Belgrade. On one side were citizens demanding justice and accountability for the collapse of the canopy, who came to support the mother of the young man who died – she has taken the extreme step of a hunger strike, as in a country where institutions fail, this represents her only remaining option. On the other side were representatives of the ruling party and regime supporters, some with criminal records, celebrating and enjoying themselves with nationalist songs and pyrotechnics.<\/p>\n
In such a deeply divided Serbia-where the current authorities bear the greatest responsibility-students, professors, and all free-thinking citizens regularly become targets of attacks. The number of assaults on the media by individuals residing in the fenced-off \u201c\u0106acilend\u201d camp continues to grow, students are subjected to degrading and traumatizing experiences of arrest and detention, and teachers\u2019 salaries, as well as other resources necessary for the work and livelihood of citizens supporting the protests, are being withheld.<\/p>\n
