{"id":9244,"date":"2019-11-18T08:50:26","date_gmt":"2019-11-18T07:50:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gradjanske.org\/?p=9244"},"modified":"2019-11-21T08:59:01","modified_gmt":"2019-11-21T07:59:01","slug":"three-freedoms-under-the-magnifying-glass-1-15-november-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gradjanske.org\/en\/three-freedoms-under-the-magnifying-glass-1-15-november-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Three freedoms under the magnifying glass: 1-15 November, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Belgrade, November 18, 2019\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Review of Violations of Freedom of Association, Assembly and Expression in Serbia 1-15 October 2019<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Reports proving a serious deterioration in respect for fundamental rights and freedoms did not condition a serious and responsible reaction of the state, but on the contrary, cases of violation of those rights became more frequent and, more dangerously, more intense. This is evidenced by the events of the past two weeks, which were marked primarily by incidents in front of Radio Television of Serbia, when a counter-protest was organized by supporters of Aleksandar Vucic, who repeatedly assaulted the assembled citizens and restricted their freedom of movement. On the other hand, prominent individuals who are not afraid to express their opinion on the state of society are increasingly becoming targets of harassment, such as Dragan Bjelogrlic and Biljana Lukic. As for media freedoms, the negative campaign against N1 television and personal attacks on their director, Yugoslav Cosic, continued. Radio Television of Serbia also joined the attack on the independent media with a harsh response to a text published in the Danas daily, while on the other hand, this television was not all loud at all about reporting on detained whistle blower Aleksandar Obradovic, who, despite being in detention, is the target of attacks by pro-government tabloids.<\/p>\n<p>On the CIVICUS Monitor list, Serbia fell from the category of countries where basic freedoms and civic space were narrowed to the category of countries where they were obstructed. This has made Serbia one of the most vulnerable countries in Europe, alongside Hungary, Ukraine and Moldova. Serbia is also the only country in the region in this category.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a  itemprop=\"url\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gradjanske.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Three-freedoms-under-the-magnifying-glass-1-15.-november-docx.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"  class=\"qbutton  default\" style=\"border-color: #a8a8a8; \">Three freedoms under the magnifying glass: 1-15 November 2019<i class=\"qode_icon_font_awesome fa fa-download qode_button_icon_element\" style=\"color: #ed1c24\"><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Representatives of 20 civil society organisations signed in Belgrade the Three Freedoms Platform for the Protection of Civic Space in the Republic of Serbia, in order to protect and promote the freedom of association, assembly and information.
