Review of violations of freedom of association, assembly and expression in Serbia 16-28 February 2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

The practice of compromising freedom of expression has marked the past two weeks, which only continues the trend of stifling free speech in Serbia. This is also evidenced by the report on Shrinking the space for action of civil society organizations which was presented by Civic Initiatives, as well as the Annual report on human rights and the Right to asylum in Serbia for 2019. The reports state that 2019 has been very unfavorable when it comes to respect for basic human rights. Again, N1 television and its employees were in the spotlight, but this time the creators and participants of the documentary series “Vladalac” were exposed to the strongest attacks. A campaign of professional and personal investigation was also conducted against journalists Vanja Djuric and Zaklina Tatalovic, whose private photographs were abused by the portal \u201ePrismotra” . The practice of post-factum restriction of freedom of assembly continued to prosecute participants in civil protests to deter future activists from fines.<\/p>\n

Representatives of 20 civil society organisations signed in Belgrade the\u00a0<\/em>Three Freedoms Platform<\/em><\/a>\u00a0for the Protection of Civic Space in the Republic of Serbia, in order to protect and promote the freedom of association, assembly and information.The Platform is intended to act as a joint block of civil society organizations (associations, professional organizations, foundations, endowments, and other forms of associations including informal groups of citizens) to stand for the protection of endangered freedoms and create conditions for unhindered participation of citizens in public affairs through civil society\u00a0<\/em>development.<\/em><\/p>\n
