Belgrade, July 16, 2026
Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia
July 3 – July 16, 2026
During the reporting period, pressure on the fundamental freedoms in Serbia continued through coordinated media targeting, threats, physical attacks, restrictions on public gatherings, and the misuse of legal and administrative mechanisms. Journalists, lawyers, activists, students, academics, and government critics were subjected to smear campaigns, intimidation, online threats, and attempts to discourage their public engagement. At the same time, several public events and civic initiatives were obstructed through violence, arbitrary interventions by authorities, or selective enforcement of regulations, while institutional responses to attacks remained inadequate.
