Belgrade, July 30, 2026
Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia
July 17 – July 30, 2026
During the reporting period, pressure on fundamental freedoms in Serbia continued through coordinated media targeting, threats, physical attacks, and restrictions on public gatherings. Journalists, lawyers, activists, judges, and prosecutors were subjected to smear campaigns, intimidation, online threats, and attempts to discourage their public engagement and professional work. At the same time, several public gatherings and independent media initiatives were obstructed through violence, arbitrary actions by local officials, or selective enforcement of regulations, while institutional responses to reported attacks and threats remained inadequate.
