Report: “Weaponizing Influence: How Russia’s and China’s Soft Power Clashes Serbia’s Civil Society using Lithium Controversies”

In light of recent events – arrests, detentions and targeting of environmental activists, as well as the campaign directed against civil society organizations led by the highest representatives of the government and the media close to them, we are presenting you a report written by the research team of Civic Initiatives “Weaponizing Influence: How Russia’s and China’s Soft Power Clashes Serbia’s Civil Society using Lithium Controversies”. The report includes a closer look at repressive mechanisms that are increasingly being used in Serbia. Report explains why environmental protests are at the same time protests with broader demands – for transparency, the rule of law and democratic governance. In the paper, we also explain how the Russian-Chinese influence on the suppression of basic civil rights in Serbia is achieved.
