The introduction of the state of emergency in Serbia, as well as all subsequent measures, had a significant impact on the work of civil society.
Lockdowns and physical distancing measures, violations of basic freedoms, and support reductions are confining people to their homes and shrinking their ability to organize, advocate, and, most importantly, help those who rely on them.
With the shrinking civic space being a steady trend in the past, it is worrying that this crisis can be used to further tighten the grip of political power and endanger the role and work of civil society.
