Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia
18 December 2020- 14 January 2021
The past two weeks have been marked by cases of numerous verbal attacks and orchestrated campaigns against journalists who dealt with sensitive political topics and who critically advertise the moves of the current government. Unfortunately, instead of an adequate reaction from the authorities, even harsher answers followed, such as filing criminal charges against journalist Jelena Zoric, who had been intensively threatened in recent weeks for reporting from the trial on marijuana cultivation on the Jovanjica plantation. On the other hand, the Interstate Body for the Prevention of Money Laundering FATF finally announced the publication of the list of civil society organizations, media and individuals in relation to which the control of their accounts was carried out by order of the Administration for the Prevention of the Money Laundering . It is emphasized in the statement that the inspection is not in accordance with international standards and that it was conducted without an adequate legal basis.
