Three freedoms under the magnifying glass: 18 December, 2020- 14 January, 2021

Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

18 December 2020- 14 January 2021

The end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021 was marked by the continuation of the practice of unpunished threats and attacks on journalists, with a case of the journalist of Tv N1, Jelena Zoric, who was repeatedly threatened for reporting from the trial in the case of illegal marijuana cultivation in Jovanjica. The obvious intention to avoid a court epilogue in the case of the murder of journalist Slavko Curuvija and the attempted murder of journalist Milan Jovanovic has led to new delays in these trials, which is why the public has less and less faith that the final epilogue of these trials will satisfy justice. The absence of the desire to overcome social divisions in Serbia and to return public life to the framework of elementary decency and normality is proven by the re-election of Olivera Zekic to the REM Council, as well as the election of a new member of the Management Board of the Radio Televison of Serbia without prior discussion. The absence of an institutional reaction to the case of the ban on N1 television to report from the memorial service on the occasion of the anniversary of the Raid in Backa.

An overview of the cases recorded during this period can be downloaded below.
