Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

The previous two weeks have been marked with numerious cases of basic rights and freedoms violations.

Posters with the image of journalist Veran Matić and a series of insulting comments on his account appeared in the city of Vranje. The official vehicle of Radio-television Vojvodina was damaged, while activist Mirko Medenica, who wrote about the case of racial profiling by border officials at the Belgrade airport, is under pressure from the police.

The journalist team of N1 TV was again interrupted in its work while reporting from the Linglong factory in Zrenjanin, where a strike by workers from Vietnam was in progress. Journalists of N1 TV, Danas and InfoVranjske portals were threatened by a member of the family of a MP of the Serbian Progressive Party.

The president of the “Sloga” union is facing a SLAPP lawsuit, and the “Kreni-promeni” campaign has also received death threats.
