Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

25 September- 8 October 2020

Due to the new situation in the world caused by the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus and the declaration of a state of emergency on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, in addition to violations of the rights to freedom of association, assembly and expression, given the circumstances, Civic Initiatives will monitor other human rights, Civic Initiatives have monitored all other human rights. Although the state of emergency in Serbia was lifted on May 6, given the large number of violations, Civic Initiatives will continue to monitor the situation in the field of all human rights in the coming period.

The previous period was marked by attacks on journalists, but also on the director and actors in the play “Srebrenica. When we Killed Get Up”. These cases do not represent isolated incidents, but a continuation of a worrying trend, as evidenced by the findings of the European Commission’s progress report on Serbia. The areas of freedom of the media and freedom of expression, as well as the area of civil society conditions, have been identified as areas where no progress has been made and where serious shortcomings have been identified.

An overview of the cases recorded during this period can be downloaded below.
