Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

27 May – 9 June, 2022

The previous two weeks have been difficult for the freedom of expression and journalists in Serbia.

Novosti journalist Marijana Kutlača was physically attacked while documenting events on the street, and journalists from the Nova.rs portal were attacked during a work assignment by an unknown person who demanded the deletion of photos taken, using threats and insults. Nova.rs was attacked again, now by the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, who openly discriminated this portal. Vranje’s OK Radio has been subjected to intimidation for months for opposing the construction of a facility next to theirs, which is carried out without the necessary permits. As a result, their windows were broken, their inventory was damaged, and in the last attack, their windows in one office were walled up.
