Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

28 October – 10 November, 2022

In the 28 October – 10 November reporting period, there was a continuation of grave violations of basic freedoms in Serbia.

During a work assignment, Radio Television of Serbia journalist Tamara Tankosić was verbally and physically attacked, while threats were also directed to Autonomija portal columnist Dragan Bursać.

Pressure continued toward citizens who protested the adoption of the new Novi Sad General Urban Plan on 21 July 2022, this time by initiating investigations against 12 persons, who are being charged with violent behaviour and attack on an official.

The reporting period was marked with threats aimed at portal and daily Danas, whose editorial office received an email with the subject „Belgrade Charlie Hebdo“, that contained very detailed death threats. Additionally, research portal KRIK was found guilty in a first instance decision in a SLAPP case initiated by former head of the Security Intelligence Agency, now Minister for Internal Affairs, Bratislav Gašić.
