Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia
June 9 – 28, 2023
Threats and intimidation of public figures participating in the “Serbia against violence” protests marked the previous period as well. This is especially true for actors, who were once again the targets of attacks. Tamara Dragičević, an actress, received threats regarding her children, and her colleagues were targeted as people who work against their country.
The pressure also continues on members of the opposition parties, so in the past period officials of the Zajedno party were detained without justifiable reason,
firstly the secretary of the city committee in Novi Sad Mladen Cvijetić, and then the co-president of the party Biljana Stojković, along with some other colleagues.
Freedom of expression was threatened in several ways – the editorial office of Jugpress received serious threats for publishing a text in the Albanian language, and the host of Nova S television, Ivan Ivanović, was again threatened by Simo Spasić, the president of the Association of Families of Kidnapped, Murdered and Missing Persons from Kosovo and Metohija. Because of these threats, he was arrested.
