Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

9 – 29 December, 2022

The end of 2022 was marked by the continuation of violations of freedom of expression, assembly and association in Serbia.

The company United Media, which owns the N1 and Nova S televisions, came under attack from officials of the Serbian Progressive Party and tabloids close to this party, including the Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, who made a series of comments on the work of this company. The daily Danas was also under attack, whose texts were transmitted by the tabloid “Srpski telegraf” and interpreted in accordance with its editorial policy.

Politician Rada Trajković was detained two times at the Merdare administrative crossing, and due to the inability to receive therapy, she was urgently transported to Prokuplje for treatment.

Civil society organizations have again been labeled as “foreign mercenaries”, this time by RT Balkan, the portal of Russian state television Russia Today.
