Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia
December 26, 2025 – January 15, 2026
We continue the year as we ended it – with attacks on media workers and violations of fundamental freedoms and rights. In the previous period in Serbia, various incidents were recorded, including coordinated hacker attacks on social accounts of media editorial offices, threats and insults directed at journalists, detentions of protest participants, and pressures within work collectives.
The targets of hacker attacks were the editorial offices of Zoomer and Radar, both editorial offices and media with a critical editorial approach. Such well-coordinated digital actions directed exclusively at critical media occur in the context of increased pressure on the media and represent attempts to restrict public access to information via social networks.
In public enterprises, mass layoffs and transfers of employees who point out irregularities continue to be recorded, indicating attempts to discipline staff and place loyal personnel.
