Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia
July 28 – August 10, 2023
In the previous period, several cases of violation of freedom of expression were recorded, and independent media and journalists are the most frequent targets of these attacks.
Two more new videos have appeared on social media targeting United Group media. In one video, it is stated that these media have an “evil intention to destroy Serbian identity, culture, tradition and religion”.
The journalist of Danas, Vojin Radovanović, received death threats via his Instagram account. In June, Radovanović was physically attacked on the street, and all this is happening at a time when videos targeting independent media are circulating on social media, creating unsafe conditions for the work of journalists.
The extreme right-wing Conservative movement “Naši” signed the leaflets that an unknown man threw in front of the premises of the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina (NDNV). This is not the first time that this movement has carried out such an action. The targets of their previous attacks were the N1 and Nova S televisions.
Employees of Radio-television Vojvodina were evacuated due to a false bomb report.
