Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

November 19 – December 2, 2021

The past two weeks have again been extremely difficult in terms of freedom of expression, assembly and association in Serbia. Journalists were again disrupted in their work, and many received threats and death threats, while the journalist of the SOinfo portal was kicked out from the press conference of the mayor of Sombor.

At the protests held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, when bridges and roads in several cities in Serbia were blocked, citizens were arrested and physically attacked. In Sabac, an excavator followed by attackers armed with battens and hammers attacked the gathered citizens, while in Belgrade, a police officer physically attacked one citizen, while pushing away another.
