Belgrade, October 16, 2025
Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia
October 3 – October 16, 2025
In the observed period, several attacks were recorded on journalistic teams reporting from gatherings of supporters of the government. What is particularly worrying is the fact that journalists were attacked by police officers, who took away their phones and physically prevented them from doing their journalistic work. Several threats were sent in the previous period against journalists and media in the country.
In addition to attacks on journalists, the police also detained citizens and students at counter-gatherings of citizens organized as a sign of protest against gatherings of supporters of the ruling party.
Court of Appeal judge Dušanka Đorđević filed a third lawsuit against KRIK journalists and their “Judge Who Judges” database. The latest lawsuit is an expansion of the previous lawsuits and it now includes editor Bojana Pavlović and journalist Jelena Radivojević, for whom Đorđević is also demanding a prison sentence and a ban on journalistic work.
