Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

October 8-21, 2021

In the past two weeks, there has been a continuation of the trend of endangering the freedoms of expression, association and assembly. Nova.rs journalist Pero Jovovic was threatened for displaying the Kosovo flag in his Facebook post, while Zoran Cirjakovic, known for earlier cases of threatening from his Twitter profile, threatened journalists Jovana Gligorijevic and Snezana Congradin this time. Radio Plus from Grocka had their electricity cut off and member of the Let’s not Drown Belgrade Movement, Dobrica Veselinovic, is being forced by court ruling to pay a fine for an unreported assembly. Also, locals and activists from Paracin were put under pressure by the police in protests organized last months.
