13 Jul IHo – I’m a human organization
Zaječar is very close to the border of Bulgaria and Serbia. Due to its geographical location this city is ethnically mixed, but it’s also on a migrant route to a better life.
The misfortune brought by the war is very well known to us from the Balkans, and that is why the work of young people who have decided not to sit idly and see how various human traffickers and smugglers make money on someone’s troubles is especially important.
IHo means I’m a Human Organization and relates that we are all people above all, and that’s why we have to rely on the support of each other.
Before it got its official name and registration number, iHo gathered people of goodwill and shared values to provide assistance and protection to refugees.
This video shows a part of our work in Zaječar through the project #HvalaSrbijo (Thank you Serbia), which is based on every possible form of assistance and support to endangered families. The goal of the project is to create a network between families that need support/work and people who are willing and eager to provide assistance by donating food/clothing/school equipment or by making direct contact with families and handing over the package personally.
IHo has so far helped more than 10,000 migrants providing them with a temporary shelter with electricity and the Internet in the city center of Zaječar, Dimitrovgrad and at the border crossing with Hungary – Kelebija. Also, it is there to help them with their contact with competent institutions such as police, court or translation services, in order to overcome various barriers (cultural, language, legal).
IHo works with several other organizations because they have a great desire to network and spread a message of love and tolerance. “We are very happy to announce our new partnership, which we signed with the “Roma Association” from Zaječar today, during the Civil Society Organizations Fair organized by TACSO by Civic Initiatives.
On our question why is it important to help, people from IHo say – “Because we are people above all”.
This story is a part of the aspirations of the TACSO Serbia and TACSO by Civic Initiatives to promote good practices of civil society organizations in Serbia and motivate other organizations that invest on daily basis their energy and efforts in creating a better society for all citizens of Serbia.
