Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia
14-27 August 2020
Due to the new situation in the world caused by the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus and the declaration of a state of emergency on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, in addition to violations of the rights to freedom of association, assembly and expression, given the circumstances, Civic Initiatives will monitor other human rights, Civic Initiatives have monitored all other human rights. Although the state of emergency in Serbia was lifted on May 6, given the large number of violations, Civic Initiatives will continue to monitor the situation in the field of all human rights in the coming period.
The previous period was marked by unfounded accusations against the association and activists of the “Center for Ecology and Sustainable Development – CEKOR” by the phantom portal Prismotra. net to work against the interests of the state and to represent “economic killers of Serbia”. This case represents one in a series of tabloid attacks on all those associations that advocate for transparency in their work and which demand answers from the competent authorities to questions concerning the safety, health and general well-being of the citizens of Serbia. Also, the topic of institutional pressure on 20 individuals and 37 civil society organizations by the Directorate for Prevention of Money Laundering at the Ministry of Finance is still current. In the past period, there have been new cases of pressure and intimidation on journalists who do their job professionally.
An overview of the cases recorded during this period can be downloaded below.
