Three freedoms under the magnifying glass: 23 October- 5 November, 2020

Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

9-22 October 2020

The previous period was marked by the news of the abolition of the Office for Cooperation with Civil Society and the transfer of most of the competencies to the newly established Ministry of Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue. Civil society organizations have expressed concern about this decision in connection with which they were not even consulted, and the reason for concern is the fact that the law does not provide for the takeover of employees, which calls into question the capacity of the Ministry to properly perform the assumed competence. The public is also disappointed with the new decision of REM to abandon the drafting of the Rulebook which would limit the broadcasting of reality programs, which once again proved that the institutions do not have the strength, nor the political will, to return commercial television to professional and legal permitted business.

An overview of the cases recorded during this period can be downloaded below.
