Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

30 September – 13 October, 2022

The observed period from September 30 to October 13, 2022, was marked by numerous violations of basic and human rights and freedoms.

A volunteer of the “Da se zna” organization was attacked in the city of Čačak, while the councilor and activist from Majdanpek Martin Bežinarević was forcibly taken to trial because he allegedly did not respond to a court summons.

The journalists of “Večernje novosti” Jelena Skenderija and Vladimir Mitrić were threatened, while Mitrić has been under police protection since he was beaten 17 years ago at the entrance to the building where he lives. The Ministry of Internal Affairs will file a report against Dragan Dmitrović, who testified about police violence he was exposed to at the end of September after he was interrogated and forced to sign a false statement about the attack on the workers of the “Ziđin” company in Majdanpek.

Journalist Srđan Nonić and MP Jelena Milošević are subject to a SLAPP lawsuit for writing about expired food in a preschool in Niš, while the Pride Info Center was robbed twice in the same day by unknown persons.
