Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia

31 December, 2021 – 13 January, 2022

The past two weeks have been very difficult for freedom of expression, assembly and association in Serbia.

In the past two weeks, the trend of restricting freedom of expression, assembly and association has continued.

Local officials in Indjija verbally attacked the local In Medija for reporting, while activist Aida Ćorović was physically attacked in the street where she lives in Belgrade. Pink TV broadcast a documentary video in its central news program targeting media and investigative journalists, in the manner already seen, using the usual labels “foreign mercenaries” and “domestic traitors”. The Galens company continued with SLAPP lawsuits against environmental activists, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs accepted the proposal to assess the safety of journalist Milan Jovanović, after the verdict in the case of burning his house, was returned for a retrial.
