Violations of basic freedoms in Serbia during the state of emergency
23-27 April, 2020
Due to the new situation in the world caused by the global pandemic of the Covid-19 virus and the declaration of a state of emergency on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, in addition to violations of the rights to freedom of association, assembly and expression, given the circumstances, Civic Initiatives will monitor other human rights in the coming period.
The central theme in the previous days is the announcement of the first session of the Serbian Parliament after the introduction of the state of emergency, which it will be decided to confirm the decision about the state of emergency, as well as to confirm more than 40 regulations adopted by the Government during this period. In the meantime, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad has dismissed a criminal complaint against journalist Ana Lalic, ending criminal proceedings against her for writing about the state of medical facilities in this city. Unfortunately, this news is not the result of a trend of improving working conditions for journalists, as evidenced by the continued campaign against them through pro-government tabloids.
An overview of the cases recorded during this period can be downloaded below.
